The good news is that most rejections have a known, fixable cause: too little content, content that is not yours, confusing navigation, code in the wrong place, or a site that was offline when Google reviewed it.

This guide shows what Google checks, a checklist to complete before you request a review, the steps to connect your site, and what to do if the answer is no. Every rule cited here comes from the official Google AdSense Help Center, checked on October 16, 2026. Google can change its policies at any time, and compliance is the publisher's responsibility: always confirm in your account dashboard.

30-second summary

What Google asks for: original, quality content, a site that complies with the program policies, being 18 or older, and access to the site's HTML source code.

The review covers the whole site: Google can review all pages, not just the address where you pasted the code.

Timing: usually a few days, and it can take 2 to 4 weeks.

Most common mistake: requesting a review with a site that is "under construction", has little text, or has the code on a page that gets no visits.

If you are rejected: fix what Google flagged, confirm in the dashboard and request a new review. Do not create a second account: each publisher can only have one.

What Google Requires to Approve a Site

Before you sign up, Google asks you to answer three questions. If any of them is "no", fix it before you request a review.

1. Is your content your own and high quality?

Content must be high quality, original and attract a target audience. External resources, such as articles from other sites or embedded videos, should only support your work: what counts is your own contribution, whether technical knowledge, suggestions, reviews or opinions. Google ads cannot appear on sites with copied or copyrighted content, and that can lead to ads being disabled or the account being terminated.

2. Does the site comply with the program policies?

Google recommends reading the program policies before you sign up. They can change at any time and compliance is your responsibility. The Google Publisher Policies cover, among other topics, illegal content, copyright infringement, dangerous or derogatory content, misrepresentation and deceptive practices, such as "get rich quick" promises.

3. Are you 18 or older?

AdSense only accepts sign-ups from people who are 18 or older. Someone who is a minor can rely on a parent or guardian, who signs up with their own Google Account. If the account is approved, all payments go to the adult responsible for the site.

You must own the site

To use AdSense you need access to the site's HTML source code, because the AdSense code goes into your pages. If you sign up with a site you do not own, Google cannot confirm ownership and does not set up the account. People using a CMS such as WordPress can usually add the code through the theme or a plugin.

Blogger users follow a different path: sign-up happens inside Blogger itself. YouTube creators sign up for AdSense for YouTube, through YouTube Studio, after meeting the channel requirements.

Checklist Before You Request a Review

Do this check with the site open, page by page. It follows Google's guidance for getting a site ready for AdSense.

What to check

How to know it is right

Site published and working

The registered address opens without errors and is not "under construction". Empty templates and test pages with only the code are not approved.

Enough text

Pages have full sentences and paragraphs, not just headings. Sites dominated by images, videos or animations are not approved.

Original content

You wrote the text and add something to what already exists: knowledge, a review, an opinion. Nothing copied from other sites.

Clear navigation

There is a working menu that is aligned and easy to read, with working drop-down lists. No broken links or pages that do not load.

No access obstacles

No odd redirects, login-only pages, excess pop-ups or pages that have not launched yet.

Google crawler access

The site opens without a password and the robots.txt file does not block the AdSense crawler.

Correct HTTPS

If the site uses HTTPS, the SSL certificate is valid, issued by a recognized authority (not self-signed), and HTTP redirects to HTTPS.

Program policies

No prohibited content. If visitors can comment, you moderate so that no inappropriate content stays up.

Traffic source

Visits do not come from pay-to-click programs, unsolicited emails or software that generates views.

Language

Most of the content is in a language AdSense supports. Check the official list in the Help Center.

Code in the right place

The AdSense code is between the head and /head tags, on the same registered site, on a page with content that gets visits.

A summary of the checklist before you request a review.

Two extra cautions from Google: the ad code should not be on automatically generated pages or pages with little or no original content, and affiliate sites only pass if they add value beyond the affiliate program content, which should be only a small part of the site.

Why Sites Get Rejected and How to Fix It

Google lists the most common reasons for rejection. The specific reason for your case appears in the AdSense dashboard and in the email Google sends, and it is worth reading both before you change the site.

Reason

What Google means

How to fix it

Duplicate account

Each publisher can only have one account, and accounts with the same payee, address or phone number count as duplicates.

Identify the duplicate account, close it and confirm the closure in your main account. If you do not recognize the account, ask whoever managed AdSense for you.

Insufficient content

Little text, a site "under construction" or an empty template.

Publish pages with full sentences and paragraphs, finish the site and put the code on an active page.

Content quality

The site lacks original, high-quality content that adds value.

Write your own useful content, remove the code from automatic or nearly empty pages and do not rely on affiliates without added value.

Policy violation

The site has prohibited content or does not follow the guidelines.

Reread the program policies and resolve the items in the account's Policy center.

Difficult navigation

Redirects, login pages, broken links, excess pop-ups, dialers or pages under construction.

Simplify the menu, fix links and remove whatever gets in the visitor's way.

Traffic source

Visits from pay-to-click programs, unwanted emails or software that generates views.

Stop buying or generating traffic from those sources and reread the landing page quality policies.

Unsupported language

Most of the content is in a language AdSense does not yet accept.

Translate the site into a supported language and request a new review, or sign up another site of yours that is in an accepted language.

Site offline or code missing

Google cannot access the site or cannot find the code.

See the access and code checklist in the previous section and the steps below.

One important point: Google can review all pages of the site, not just the page where you pasted the code. A forgotten problem page can cost you the approval.

Step by Step: Connect Your Site and Request a Review

In the AdSense dashboard, the path is this one. If you have not added the site yet when creating the account, start at step 1.

The review takes from a few days to 4 weeks.

Sign in to your AdSense account and, on the home page, click Add site.

Enter the address of the site where you want to show ads and click Save. If you have several sites, you can add them all now.

On the card to connect your site to Google AdSense, click Let's go and choose a verification method: the AdSense code snippet, pasted into the HTML between the head and /head tags of every page where you want to show ads; the snippet in an ads.txt file, uploaded to the site's root directory; or the meta tag, pasted between the head and /head tags, recommended for those who do not want to put the snippet on the home page.

Check the box to confirm you are done and click Verify.

Click Request review.

Optional: after requesting the review, choose a consent management platform (CMP), Google's or a certified third-party one, for the European regulations message.

One alternative Google accepts: if you prefer not to paste the code or create the ads.txt, verify the site in Search Console. If Google detects the verification, it keeps checking whether the site is ready to show ads. If you use WordPress, you can add the code through the theme or a plugin.

How long it takes

The review usually takes a few days and can take 2 to 4 weeks. You can follow the status on the "Sites" card on the home page, and Google lets you know when the site can show ads. If approval takes too long, the most common cause, according to Google, is having placed the code on a page that does not get regular visits.

If Your Site Is Not Approved

A rejection is not the end. The path is short and worth following in order:

Read the reason in the AdSense dashboard and in the email from Google. It says what needs to be fixed.

Fix the whole site, not just the page where you pasted the code, because Google can review all pages.

After making changes, go to the dashboard and confirm that you resolved the problems. Google then finishes setting up the account.

Request a new review, under Sites, Request review, only when you are sure the checklist is fully done.

Two Google warnings that deserve attention. The first: do not open a second account to "try again", because each publisher can only have one and a duplicate account is a reason for rejection. The second: anyone whose account was terminated for invalid traffic or a policy violation cannot open a new one. So, above all, avoid the most common causes of bans, described in Why Sites Get Banned from Google: 5 Mistakes That Can Destroy Your Monetization.

Approved: What Now?

Once the site is approved, the road to money in your account has five more stages: earnings of US$ 10, identity, address PIN, payment method and a US$ 100 balance.
